FSIN Chief Lonechild Responds to First Nations University Funding
(Saskatoon SK): Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Guy Lonechild termed the First Nations University funding announcement by federal government “a step in the right direction with a long way to travel.”
“The decision by the Government of Canada to provide interim funding is a signal that the federal government recognizes the valuable role of First Nations University,” said FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild.

The Provincial Government Offers Very Little To First Nations
(Saskatoon, SK) FSIN Vice Chief Morley Watson says there is very little good news for First Nation people in the 2010 Provincial Budget. The Province announced today it is unilaterally changing the number of cartons of cigarettes purchased on-reserve by Status Indians from 3 to 1 per week which will cost First Nation businesses millions in lost revenue.

Agreement Signed On First Nations University
(Saskatoon SK): Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Guy Lonechild has confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the First Nations University, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the University of Regina and the Saskatchewan government on the First Nations University.
The FSIN Host Annual Health And Wellness Gathering
(Saskatoon, SK) First Nations from across Saskatchewan will be attending a three day health and wellness gathering hosted by the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations that will focus on providing information on various health issues affecting First Nations people in Saskatchewan. The media are invited to attend The 2010 Working Together For Better Health & Wellness gathering on March 23 to 25 2010, at the Saskatoon Inn located at 2002 Airport Drive.

The FSIN Warns The Province To Stop Its Attack On Treaty Rights
(Saskatoon, SK) FSIN Vice Chief Morley Watson says the Saskatchewan Government has a Duty to Consult where there is an infringement on Treaty rights with First Nations before any changes are made to on-reserve taxation and the personal use of tobacco. The Federation learned of the province’s proposal to decrease the personal tax free exemption on tobacco purchases by status Indians minutes before Premier Brad Wall made his state of the province address in Saskatoon on March 17, 2010. The FSIN contends there was no meaningful consultation regarding this matter. The Federation will convene a meeting with the Chiefs of Saskatchewan to restate our Treaty position.

The FSIN Will Join The Ahenakew Family In Remembrance Of The Life And Accomplishments Of Former Chief Dr. David Ahenakew
(Saskatoon, SK) FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild is saddened by the passing of former FSIN and National Chief Dr. David Ahenakew. Former Chief Ahenakew passed away peacefully Friday March 12, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.
Federation Of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Takes Further Steps To Ensure Exemplary Governance And Accountability At The First Nations University Of Canada
(Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) Chief Guy Lonechild, Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN), announced today that the Chiefs-in-Assembly have taken further steps to ensure exemplary governance and accountability at the First Nations University of Canada (FNUC).
Begay Report Completed, Will Be Addressed In Chiefs Assembly
(Saskatoon, SK) FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild will seek direction from the Chiefs in Assembly regarding the Dr. Manley Begay Report on the First Nations University of Canada. A special FSIN Legislative Assembly has been called for March 8 and 9, 2010 in Saskatoon at the Saskatoon Inn at which time the Chiefs will be asked to ratify the report.
