Treaty Right to Trap
At present, Treaty First Nation trappers are placed in the same position as non-First Nation trappers. In response, a Treaty Harvesters Association is under development for review and mandate from the Lands and Resources Commission. The Treaty Harvesters Association is intended to work collectively on asserting the Treaty right to trap. In addition, plans are under way to hold a Treaty Harvesters Gathering on an annual basis. The FSIN will continue to provide support for First Nations trappers. If you have issues or concerns regarding Treaty trapping please contact the Lands and Resources Secretariat at 665-1215.
