FSIN 2011 World Indigenous Youth Summit Postponed

(Saskatoon, SK) Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) Vice Chief E. (Dutch) Lerat regrets to inform that the “FSIN World Indigenous Youth Summit” has been postponed until the summer of 2012.

Unfortunately, the FSIN was unable to meet the targeted sponsorship deadline.

“I want to first apologize to our Indigenous Youth” says Vice Chief Lerat. “It is unfortunate that an important celebration like the World Indigenous Youth Summit has to be postponed.  I want to thank those sponsors that made a commitment this year, namely, Saturn Minerals, BHP Billiton, INAC, NWMO, Ministry of Environment, Enterprise Saskatchewan, Rawlco Radio, Saskatoon Inn, Tourism Saskatoon, City of Saskatoon, and SICC.  We sincerely hope these sponsors will provide their support next year.”  The week-long celebration and dialogue was scheduled for July 24-29, 2011, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The FSIN will announce the new dates and summit details as soon as they are confirmed.  The FSIN does not anticipate much change to the agenda.  This postponement will allow the FSIN Lands and Resources Secretariat a greater opportunity to generate the resources required to deliver an event of this scope, and to secure the high-level speakers our youth deserve.  “We want to hear from our youth,” Vice Chief Lerat stated.  “If you have a high-level speaker in mind or a workshop topic relevant to the environment, water, and sustainable energy, please contact the FSIN Lands and Resources Secretariat to share your thoughts and ideas.”

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of the Treaties, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
