(Regina, SK) The North American Indigenous Games bid committee comprised of partners, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, the Metis Nation–Saskatchewan, the Province of Saskatchewan and the City of Regina, are well prepared to make its final bid presentation to host the 2014 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The bid committee will make its final presentation on Friday May 13, 2011 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
“We feel confident about our chances to secure the 2014 North American Indigenous Games. We did our homework and are well prepared,” says FSIN Vice Chief Morley Watson. “Our strength is our team and the partnerships we have in place. We have the backing of the Province and the City of Regina.”
The NAIG attracts close to 10,000 Indigenous athletes, coaches, parents and fans. Saskatchewan last hosted the games in 1993 in the city of Prince Albert. The cities of London, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia are also submitting bids to host the 2014 sporting event.
“Saskatchewan has shown our ability to host world-class sporting events in the past, and the 2014 North American Indigenous Games would be a great opportunity for us to showcase Saskatchewan and our world-class athletes,” says First Nations and Métis Relations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of Treaty, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
