The FSIN Host Health And Wellness Gathering Focused On Youth

(Saskatoon, SK) First Nations youth from across Saskatchewan will be
attending the 2010 Youth Healing and Wellness Gathering on February 16
to 18 2010, at the Saskatoon Inn, 2002 Airport Drive, Saskatoon Sask.
The media are invited to attend. The gathering will be hosted by the
Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, and the Central Intertribal
Alliance on Health. The aim of the youth conference is to educate youth
on reserve and in urban areas on prevention and intervention services to
combat the difficult challenges facing First Nations youth in
Saskatchewan. Some of the topics that will be discussed during the youth
assembly include suicide prevention, injury prevention, health and
wellness issues, and opportunities to learn about the FSIN Legislative
process.

Youth at 2010 Youth And Wellness Gathering

The theme of this year's gathering will be "Healing, Embracing and
Empowering our Youth" says Vice Chief Edward (Dutch) Lerat. "The FSIN
recognizes the difficult challenges our youth face, this gathering is a
tool for youth to express their own concerns and to learn prevention and
interventions services available in and out of their own First Nation
communities."

Students also get the opportunity to participate in the FSIN Youth
Legislative Assembly and have the opportunity to discuss issues that
affect them on a daily basis. The FSIN Executive will be in attendance
to answer questions from the students.

Two youth delegates will be selected to sit on the Assembly of First
Nations Youth Council. The youth representatives will represent the FSIN
on various youth initiatives locally, provincially, and nationally. They
will promote awareness, education and capacity development among First
Nations Youth across Saskatchewan. The three day youth gathering
attracts 450 young people from across Saskatchewan.

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First
Nations in Saskatchewan.
The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of the
Treaties, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the
Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
