(Saskatoon, SK) FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild is pleased to announce the interim Board of Governors for the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv). The 11 member interim Board of Governors will ensure that the governing structures of the FNUniv will meet the academic, administrative and management needs of the institution.
"Again this is another positive for the students at the First Nations University. Their education continues to be our priority. This Board will ensure the students can focus on their studies," says Chief Lonechild. "We have some stellar individuals who agreed to assist in plotting a new direction for the First Nations University of Canada. The people that will make up the board are very familiar with the functions of a university. One of the first tasks for the interim board will be to address the Meyers Norris Penny report."
The interim Board of Governors will retain whatever political, financial or other decision-making authority required to undertake the requirements of office. The interim Board will have the authority to conduct the work it has been mandated to undertake free of political and other interference that may impact its ability to accomplish its mandate.
"This interim Board has the confidence of students from the First Nations University," says Cadmus Delorme, FNUniv Students Association Vice President. "We will work with the Board to get the university back on track."
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of Treaty, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
