Last Post Fund

The Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans' Association is happy to announce that we have an opportunity to right one wrong with respect to our people who served in the military forces in Canada and abroad. As you may be aware, when our soldiers returned home, they were not given the proper benefits and entitlements that were afforded to other Canadians. Many now lie in unmarked graves.

Recently, our request to pilot a program to provide grave markers for all Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans who have been lying in unmarked graves for more than 5 years was approved (by INAC). Thus we can begin to ensure that every unmarked grave of our soldiers will have a headstone.

In order to begin this important initiative, we need to contact all the First Nation communities and determine who cares for the cemeteries or connect with knowledgeable community people. We need to complete the research required to obtain their service records and identify their gravesites between now and March 31, 2011, and we need to complete applications to the Last Post Fund for the purposes of obtaining a grave marker for all eligible Canadian and Allied veterans.

If you know of a Veteran who served in the Canadian or Allied Forces and has an unmarked grave, please contact the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association at 306.385.3250 or Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
