FSIN has been promoting the Alter-Natives to Non-Violence Initiative, whose design is to prevent youth gang activities among First Nations children and youth. The report is available for purchase in order to raise funds for continuing to combat youth gang activities.

FSIN staff have spent a number of days meeting with federal and provincial inmates recently in Prince Albert. Staff met with several inmates including inmates from Pine Grove.

The FSIN has jointly applied, with SIFC and University of Regina-Criminal Justice, to prepare a proposal that will review the gaps in mental health services to youth who are in the criminal justice system. The FSIN will determine the extent of culturally relevant services. Further, the range and effectiveness of services will be reviewed. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in accessing funding. We will continue to meet with the funding agencies and work with our community partners.
