The
Health and Social Development Secretariat is part of a National
Working Group to develop the long-term care framework. AFN, INAC
and Health Canada are the partners in a submission to create policy
to guide the development of long-term care including personal
and special care homes. Preliminary discussions are underway between
DIAND and FNIHB with AFN involvement with respect to conducting
an analysis of the issues employing research methodology that
will enable accurate projections for long- term services utilization.
Saskatchewan
First Nations communities continue to move forward with innovative
expansion of their programs despite adversity and challenges.
This has been accomplished/supported by the various working groups
including: The Saskatchewan First Nations Home Care Working Group,
NITHA Home Care Group, South Bands Group, Policy Review Subcommittee
and the Chart Review Committee. FSIN will continue to lobby for
adequate resources to provide 2nd and 3rd level services to the
Home and Community Care program at all levels. The AFN has prepared
a document providing an overview of the sustainability issues
but it needs to be validated.
