FSIN Sciences Program

Delivers two programs that are unique to Saskatchewan First Nations Youth and assists with Science Fairs at the Tribal Council level. The program is also working with SaskLearning to develop curriculum in science that will enhance text book readings for students in primary and secondary grades. Traditional Knowledge is the centre focus of the program and offers an effective approach in promoting environmental stewardship.

The Summer Programming

Summer Science festivals are an initiative to promote math and the sciences. The program reaches out to youth bringing a traveling Science show where the community and neighbouring communities can explore science experiments, workshops and science and technology trades and career choices. The Sciences Program creates a safe atmosphere for the Science Festivals and coordinates fun presentations, interesting exhibits and exciting demonstrations. Although the festivals are specially designed to entice youth in science, the festivals welcome everyone to the event to explore the day activities.

Mobile Programming

Throughout the school year the Sciences Program welcomes schools to invite us to attend their school for the day to deliver a workshop style presentation to primary and secondary students. The science workshops for students are hands-on and interactive, that introduces students to science that is fun and exciting.

Selection of Sites

Sites are selected through a selection process. A Call for Submissions is faxed out to all Schools and First Nation Bands and Health Clinics on a quarterly basis to announce an interest to host a one-day science festival for their students on their community, either for the summer programming or the mobile programming in fall, winter and spring.
