The First Nations Career Placement/Summer Student Employment Program provides employment opportunities to First Nations high school and post secondary students during the summer months. The positions created under this program allow students to gain valuable work exposure and explore career choices.

The Saskatchewan Indian Education and Training Commission approved the distribution of the Career Placement 1999 allocation according to the SIGA formula. This equates to a base amount plus per capita for each First Nation.

The summer employment program runs from May to August and provides students with a maximum of 16 weeks of employment.

Participants

Program applications and guidelines are sent to First Nations in Saskatchewan as well as to First Nations' businesses.

The summer student employment program is managed according to the following criteria:

  • eligible employees are First Nations students at the high school and post-secondary levels;
  • students must be in a course of study prior to their employment term and return to their studies after the employment term.
