Any community development goals must address the unique issues
associated with a very large and growing young population. These
include such issues as establishing health, educational, social
and cultural programs and services targeted at youth.
The overriding long term objective of the Youth Strategy Initiatives
is the provision of a comprehensive strategy that will effectively
equip the future leaders and workforce of tomorrow to take their
place in contributing to the socio-economic development of their
communities and to Saskatchewan as a whole.
The current drive to reduce historic high drop out rates which
have contributed to maintaining high unemployment and social
assistance dependency has met with encouraging success.
Through such programs as School to Work, Cooperative
Education, Science Camps, Career Placement and Work Experience,
First Nations youth are being given opportunities, encouragement
and support which is empowering them to establish and pursue
their own educational and career goals.
